A much-repeated phrase following loss is, “Sorry about your loss”, but this can feel insincere and impersonal. Instead, something more meaningful like “I’m here for you” or “I am thinking of you and your family” might provide great comfort. It is important to remember that someone who has experienced a loss will need ongoing support over the coming weeks and months; short phrases such as these are reminders that they are not alone in their grief.
