COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT CREMATION

                                          COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT CREMATION

In the United States, the popularity of cremation has skyrocketed in the last 5 years, but there many people who still have a number of questions about this procedure. Here is a brief look at the top 5, most frequently asked questions:

1) What is cremation?

The basic process of cremation is one that turns a human body into roughly 3–7 pounds of both inorganic and organic compounds. This is done by exposing the body to intense flame and heat for approximately 2 hours. During cremation, temperatures can reach upwards of 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. After cremation, the remains will have the consistency of gravel or sand.

2) Can viewings be held for cremations?

The answer is yes. Many funeral homes will offer rental caskets that a deceased’s body can be displayed in for a memorial or funeral service. Having a service is often beneficial for mourners because it allows them to congregate together. Once the memorial service is over, the deceased will then be cremated, and their ashes will be given to the family to do with as they wish.

3) Can cremation ashes be scattered almost anywhere?

In most cases, they can be. However, before scattering ashes just anywhere, you must consult local ordinances and laws before the ashes are scattered. If you plan to scatter the ashes in your own backyard, then this can be done at your discretion.
